The Basel Peace Forum intends to inspire new and unconventional ideas for peacebuilding. About 120 decision-makers from business, diplomacy, academia and civil society from 20 countries met on 15 and 16 January 2017 in Basel to rethink peace. The discussions led to the recommendations to world leaders to take up responsibility for peace. The next Basel Peace Forum will be in 2018. Learn more

14th National Symposium of the Swiss Red Cross
Annemarie Sancar, Senior Program Officer at swisspeace, participated in a panel discussion at the National Symposium of the Swiss Red Cross entitled "Menschen auf der Flucht" on the gender dimensions of displacement and the link to the UN Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. KOFF Roundtable on Guatemala and Honduras
KOFF organized a roundtable on space for civil society in Guatemala and Honduras, with the participation of Swiss Ambassador to Guatemala and Honduras Jürg Benz. The roundtable was successful and very well attended. It took place for the third year in a row. This helped build up confidence and a better understanding among the participants.

Annual Core Group meeting of the CSPPS
swisspeace participated in the annual Core Group (CG) meeting of the Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and Staebuilding (CSPPS). The aim of the meeting was to strengthen working relationships across all platform members around the New Deal processes. On basis of discussions held, CSPPS Membership concluded the meeting by drafting and agreeing upon the Berlin Declaration.

Podium Discussion on Working in Conflict Contexts
Is it possible to contribute to the development of a country where there is no state? How can we work on a long-term basis in a country affected by conflict? What difficulties do development organizations face? Sidonia Gabriel, KOFF director, took part in a podium discussion that looked at these issues.
