Swiss Peacebuilding Activities

Swiss governmental and non-governmental organisations have been strongly committed to support different strategies and actors in the realm of humanitarian relief, reconstruction and development. More specifically, humanitarian assistance in the North aims to support the settlement and reintegration of internally displaced persons, in particular shelter, livelihoods and demining. Besides emergency assistance, development oriented activities aim to reduce poverty in the East, South, West and the Highlands of Sri Lanka. In addition, Switzerland supports the Sri Lanka National Migration Policy through specific programmes. Swiss governmental and non-governmental organisations work in close and cooperation with the Government of Sri Lanka, local and international NGOs as well as multilateral organisations.

The Center for Peacebuilding has been facilitating a Sri Lanka Roundtable since 2001. The objective of the roundtable is to bring together Swiss non-governmental and governmental organisations but also other key-players like the academia and the Diaspora living in Switzerland. The thematic foci of the KOFF Sri Lanka Roundtable range from political questions to issues of aid coherence and accountability among Swiss governmental and non-governmental actors and strategies.
