Understand the challenges mediators face when facilitating dialogue and searching for peace agreements and train your negotiation and mediation skills.

Program Overview

Mediators bring conflict parties to the negotiating table and support them in finding agreements. In the last decade the range of actors in mediation has broadened beyond diplomats and UN experts and frequently professional mediators are brought in. Participants gain insights into the challenges that mediators face when facilitating dialogue and searching for peace agreements.

Structure & methodology

This 2-day course (Friday/Saturday) is part of the thematic module of the CAS Civilian Peacebuilding Essentials, a postgraduate program that is offered annually by swisspeace and the University of Basel and runs from September to August.

Course methodologies include expert inputs, peer exchange, case studies, exercises, skills training and self-study.

Certification

Successful participants are awarded a Confirmation of Participation. This course can be taken as one module (1 ECTS) of the Certificate of Advanced Studies in Civilian Peacebuilding Essentials program offered by swisspeace and the University of Basel .
