Analysis & Impact

Conflict analysis is the systematic study of the profile, causes, actors, and dynamics of conflict. It should constitute the mandatory first step of designing a peacebuilding intervention and in engaging in a conflict context. Conflict analysis, however, only provides a snap-shot view of a highly volatile and constantly changing situation. Understanding and staying abreast of those changes is a huge challenge, particularly for "outsiders".

Key questions for swisspeace are:
How can organizations get to a constantly updated and explicit conflict analysis?
How best to link this analysis to a robust peacebuilding strategy?
How to implement conflict analysis in partnership together with local organizations and beneficiaries, so that it puts the emphasis on the communities, rather than on the intervention it is planning?
What best practice and standards can be identified for international actors to improve the current conflict analysis practice in their organizations?
