KOFF Background

The Center for Peacebuilding (KOFF) was founded at swisspeace in March 2001 by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and various Swiss non-governmental organizations (NGO's) in an effort to support these actors to develop their peacebuilding capacities and to contribute to more coherence and synergies in Swiss peacebuilding policies. The current number of member NGOs is 45.

KOFF activities aim at:

Enhancing practical knowledge and competences in civilian peacebuilding among Swiss actors and their international partners;
Fostering exchange and dialogue, and developing synergies and networks among the various Swiss governmental and non-governemental actors active in peacebuilding and international cooperation.

KOFF main activities are the the publication of the monthly KOFF newsletter (in German, French and English), platform activities with regional and thematic roundtables, training and capacity building and consultancies and backstopping support for both governmental and non-governmental KOFF members.

KOFF has an annual budget of about CHF 1 Mio. The major contribution comes from the Human Security Division of the FDFA. Member NGOs contribute through a membership fee.
