„National Dialogues as platforms for peaceful conflict transformation – a
suitable approach for Syria?“

8 November 2017, 17h00-18h30, Palais des Nations, Room IX

In order to attend the event you will need to register online for a Geneva Peace Week pass to access the building. Registration deadline: 1 November 2017. More information // Direct registration.

Description

In a conflict-torn society, National Dialogues present one viable way to overcome internal rifts and to rebuild relations between the state, its institutions and different groups. National Dialogues can help to establish a new social contract between the various parties to the conflict and achieve a national consensus.

How can this instrument be used in an ongoing armed conflict, to prevent it from deteriorating and to promote transformation towards peace? The panel will discuss this question in the context of Syria. In particular, it will explore the prospects for national dialogue in Syria and the conditions under which it can become a feasible option in the political process.

Simultaneous translations for Arabic-English and English-Arabic will be provided.
