swisspeace is a member of the international research program NCCR North-South "Research partnerships for mitigating syndromes of global change".  Under the Thematic Node 1  "Institutions, Livelihoods and Conflicts" swisspeace - in collaboration with the Development Study Group at the Department of Geography, University of Zurich - hosts three research projects: "Environmental Conflicts Revisited: Natural Resources, Institutions and Conflict in the Horn of Africa and in West Africa", "Negotiating Statehood in Post-Conflict Africa: Dynamics of State (Re)construction in Societies After Civil War", "The Role of the Private Sector in Peace Promotion: An Assessment of the Benefits, Limitations and Determinants of Corporate Engagement in Peace".
The research projects of NCCR TN1 explore the dynamic role of institutions in regulating access to means of livelihood, peace or security. They further seek to identify ways of strengthening the acceptance and legitimacy of those institutions that foster sustainability.

The NCCR North-South is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
