With Albrecht Schnabel's move to the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) on 1 August 2008, HUSEC activities will for the time being be limited to the NCCR North-South Transversal Package Project "Operationalizing Human Security" (OPHUSEC), which Albrecht continues to direct from DCAF/Geneva.

Activities
Our activities focus on opportunities and challenges in the provision of human security, and the early prevention of direct and structural violence.

Objective
Our objective is to offer valuable contributions to academic, policy and public debates about the analytical and practical dynamics of human security thinking and its role in the consolidation of peace.

Output
Our output ranges from publications, presentations, training, and teaching to policy advice.

Current Project OPHUSEC

The project "Operationalizing Human Security for Livelihood Protection" (OPHUSEC) focuses on the scientific conceptualization and practical application of the concept of human - individual and population-centered - security for the definition, early detection, and effective mitigation of locally-experienced threats. OPHUSEC was developed within the framework of the National Center for Competence in Research (NCCR) North-South.
