swisspeace was an active member of the GMOSS network of excellence, which was part of the Sixth Framework Programme funded by the European Commission. The broader aim of GMOSS is to integrate Europe's civil security research. GMOSS was operational from 2004-20008 and initially consisted of about 30 organisations from the public and private sectors.

swisspeace's contribution to the GMOSS was to estimate conflict risks in monitored countries on a daily basis combining data analysis with social network analysis. The goal of the project was to communicate conflict relevant information and gain a better understanding of spatial conflict dynamics. Over the four years, GMOSS related work at swisspeace hab been concentrated on forecasting, network analysis and conflict mapping with event data. This work relied mainly on the analysis and provision of political event data collected by FAST, swisspeace's international early warning program.
