Advanced Studies Programs
swisspeace is participating in the following two Advanced Studies Programs as partner of the University of Basel:
Master of Advanced European Studies (MAES)
Interdisciplinary postgraduate degree on European Integration jointly awarded by the faculty of Law, Humanities and Economics of the University of Basel at the Europe Institute. In cooperation with swisspeace the Institute is offering a major in the field of conflict and development as part of its MAES course of studies. Participants in the programme will analyze insights into conflict and development that were gained from the process of European integration. Another focus will be on the European influence on different regions in the world, particularly on Africa, Asia, and South America.

Diploma of Advanced Studies in Conflict Research and Conflict Resolution
Being the first of its kind in Switzerland, this interdisciplinary postgraduate degree focuses on the interface between science and practical experience. On the one hand it addresses the causes and dynamics of conflicts, violence, wars and terrorism, on the other hand it covers the broad range of traditional and innovative practices of conflict resolution in economics, society, politics and international relations. Within this framework, possibilities and limitations of early warning (conflict prevention) systems are analysed. The course will mainly be held at the University of Basel, with excursions scheduled to the University of Fribourg, to Geneva (UN), Brussels (EU) and Strasbourg (Council of Europe).
Successful graduates of the programme will be able to contribute to conflict analysis from an interdisciplinary point of view, to differentiate between various types of conflict, to understand the course of a conflict and to assess a particular conflict situation.
